BEACHES AND CAMPING

Need a variety of choices? This area offers you many different places to pull up some sand or pitch a tent. With two Provincial Parks, a couple of rivers, and several lakes, how could you go wrong visiting here?

Our two Provincial Parks are a quick and easy get-away for everyone. Sasquatch Provincial Park, just north of Harrison Hot Springs, is comprised of Trout, Hicks and Deer Lakes with three campgrounds and one Day park called Green Point on Harrison Lake. You can fish, tan, swim, motor-boat, hike, sightsee, or just relax at this popular excursion. The same goes for Kilby Park located on the Harrison River next to Harrison Mills and the Kilby Historic Site . Click on the links to learn more about these parks or to make reservations. Just past Sasquatch Provincial Park on the East Harrison Lake logging road you will find Rainbow Falls, natural hot springs cool enough to bathe in. A short helicopter trip with Farwest Helicopters Ltd. (604-506-2209) will bring you to the Breckenridge Ice Fields.

Harrison Lake, the Lower Mainland's largest lake, is glacier-fed and is located just ten minutes north of Agassiz up Hwy#9. It offers a sandy beach on the south end along with a warm-water lagoon. A short mountain-hike on the west side past the Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa brings you to a white-sand beach called Sandy Cove. You may launch your boat at one of boat launches. Rentals are available for many different types of water toys at several locations. Harrison Lake is home to Killer Cove's Marina, Harrison Water Sports, Harrison Bay Guiding Services and more!

Harrison Hot Springs itself boasts over 400 campground spots and then there's Agassiz, the two Provincial Parks, Bridal Falls, and the Forestry Service Recreation Sites (see Outdoor Adventures).

Dining

While most rural towns have more fast-food than fine-dining, Kent-Harrison has only three fast-food restaurants and one is a chain restaurant. A little hint: A&W Agassiz is one of the province's highest revenue-grossing fast-food outlets.  This leads many to understand why the small area has so many successful fancy cuisines and sidewalk cafés. With a combined population of only around 6,700 people, it is hard to believe that all these eateries are able to survive, but that brings us to another hint - many people visit here - and from touring our website you should already know why that is.

Kent-Harrison residents and visitors are able to dine on an assortment of foods from all over the world! In Agassiz, we have Canadian, Chinese, Greek and Japanese and just down the road in Harrison Hot Springs there's Canadian, French, German, Indian, Italian, Japanese, and Swiss. In between all these restaurants are bars, pubs, and clubs, coffee shops, ice cream huts, pizza parlours, burger joints, fruit stands, produce markets and, of course, corn barns. There's food for everyone, and more beyond in Harrison Mills, Seabird Island, Chehalis, Bridal Falls, Popkum and Rosedale - all within a twenty minute drive. We don't only live well, we eat well!

Golf

Is the Upper Fraser Valley a golfer's dream? Many agree that it's not too hard to twist one's arm to drive out here for a round of golf! Wherever you live, any drive is a beautiful one to the Upper Fraser Valley, and once you hop out of your automobile the dramatic beauty explodes in your face! Beauty, quality and affordability - find $12 specials regularly! Tee-off under the soaring eagles at Harrison Mill's Sandpiper or putt your way through Bridal Falls' Mountainbrook under the towering Mount Cheam. Show off your skills at Harrison Resort's PGA-rated course or race up the hills in your cart at the prestigious Falls Golf and Country Club.

Leisure Activities

Don't want to go for a swim in the lakes or climb the mountains? Don't worry; there are plenty of things to do on the ground too! Whether you're staying at a resort or not, there's more to do around town.

In Agassiz you will find several tennis courts at the high school and fairgrounds, many sports fields for any activity, a track for a small-audience jog, baseball diamonds for a game of catch or ball, skate park for roller blades and boarders alike, the outdoor swimming pool, many playgrounds and an outdoor horse-riding ring. You can go for a stroll along the river bank or pull out your motorbikes or four-wheelers for some river-island extremes! You can hit the greens at the PGA-rated Harrison Resort Golf Course just before Harrison, Mountainbrook (mini golf and driving range too) or The Falls Golf & Country Club at Bridal Falls, or perhaps the Sandpiper in Harrison Mills. Need something indoors? Try the Fitness Centre, Library, Agassiz-Harrison Museum, or Kilby Historic Site in Harrison Mills.

In Harrison Hot Springs you will find an indoor pool-sized healing springs hot pool, playgrounds, sports field and baseball diamond at the elementary school. If the beach and dyke trails are too much, try the other endless supply of trails either for roaming on foot or horseback, and benches are great for people-watching and painting/sketching. Stop in at the Harrison Art Gallery on Rockwell Drive for some great local talent.

Outdoor Adventures

The outdoors of the amazing and dramatic beauty of the Upper Fraser Valley are for romance, extreme sports, religious experiences, sight-seeing, and tours - it's for everything and everyone. The natural landscape here is like very few, so much of it has yet to be explored and appreciated, so much of it is wild, dangerous, unfettered, and most importantly, free. Climb the heights, see the world, and jump off with your paraglide or touch the sky together and ask that momentous question. Your dream is waiting, release yourself!

Mount Cheam is the hike of all hikes in Southwestern BC, there is none other that can offer the extraordinary views and the level of hiking it expects. Mount Cheam towers 2,112m, nearly 7,000 feet over the Upper Fraser Valley and is the most sought-after hike by everyone in view. You'd expect this climb to be a busy one, but because the trail can only be accessed by a 4x4 vehicle, many have to turn away. Be sure to climb the amazing beauty on a smog-free day (soon after it rains) to access views all the way to the Pacific Ocean past Vancouver Island, the continuous mountain rages in every direction, and landmark buildings in downtown Vancouver - this is a must see, must climb!

Want a climb a little closer to your home, campsite, or hotel suite? Try the Mount Agassiz/Campbell Lake Trail in Harrison Hot Springs! Many say, however, that the full climb up to the lake is not worth the hike, though the helipad offers stunning views of the Harrison Lake region. The trail begins just across from Balsam Avenue.

Just about every mountain in the Kent-Harrison area has trails or logging roads to follow, go explore and see something new! Find a perception without hopping onto an elevator, sense of worth and the appreciation of where you live or visit will amplify.

Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park can be found off Hwy#9 South near Bridal Falls in Popkum, take Yale Road East and follow the BC Wildlife Watch signs - a short distance drive brings you to the old Marl Mine of the 1950s that has since been recreated into a wetlands wildlife habitat. Visitors are asked to leave all animals and floatation devices behind and hope to see hundreds of species of birds, fish, and mammals. Go for a nice stroll during sunset or a family picnic in the park.

For the bird lovers, there is more than just Cheam Lake Wetlands in and around here. In the summer months watch out for the turkey vultures while catching your salmon at the Maria Slough. In November of each year, Harrison Mills is home to the Bald Eagle Festival - hundreds and hundreds of bald eagles can be seen nesting and soaring high above the land and waters here at this time of year. Also during the winter months Trumpeter and Tundra swans can be flocking into the fields of the District of Kent - we ask that all bird watchers stay on the roads when driving through the private farm land. A bird viewing sanctuary deck for year-round viewing can also be found just off Tuyttens Road on the dyke.

Jump into the water with your kayak, boat, board, canoe, raft, or even your dragon boat! The waters here are endless! Did you know you can travel all the way from the Georgia Strait up to Harrison Hot Springs via the Fraser and Harrison Rivers? Or that early in the morning you can spot fresh water seals catching some rays along the shores of Harrison Lake? Or how about trying to snap a shot of the legendary Sasquatch that's roaming our forests? There's an adventure here for anyone!

The world's largest salmon producing river is here in the District of Kent and it also happens to be the largest river in British Columbia. The Fraser River and its local tributaries offer trout and sturgeon, as well as several types of salmon; pink, chum, coho, sockeye, and chinook. If you'd just like to look at the fish, go visit the Chehalis River Hatchery/Weaver Creek Spawning Channel at 16250 Morris Valley Road (604-796-9444). Visit their website!

Take your vehicle off-road, well, off the highway and into the extensive networks of forest service roads on the west or east side of Harrison Lake. On the east side you will find hidden places such as Rainbow Falls, Cascade Peninsula, Wolf Lake, Bear Creek and the natural hot springs at Clear Creek. On the west side there's 20 Mile Bay on Harrison Lake along with many others such as Weaver, Wood, and Chehalis as well as plenty of creeks for your true and rugged camping experience. Click here for more information or e-mail Forests.ForestPracticesBranchOffice@gems3.gov.bc.ca

Hemlock Valley Resort is the Upper Fraser Valley's winter playground offering cheap deals and big thrills. With 34 runs it has something for everyone - downhill skiers, cross-country skiers, snowboarders, and children - with a terrain park, bunny-hill, tube park, day lodge, and a bar & grill. Only a 30 minute drive from downtown Agassiz! http://www.hemlockvalleyresort.com/
